Laddoos

What’s Diwali without a Laddoo? Laddoos are everyone’s favorite Indian sweets. A laddoo is easy to identify – it is shaped like a small ball and is made with wheat semolina, coconut and chickpea flour and cooked with ghee. Then the laddoo is stuffed with nuts such as almond and pistachio or raisins for added taste and effect.

Chirote

Have you tried Chirote before? It’s easily one of the tastiest desserts out there. Chirote is a light and flaky dessert made from wheat flour stuffed with sugar filling, which is deep fried and served with syrup.

Samosa

Samosa is the most common Indian street food. You will find someone selling samosas on every street corner in Mumbai, Delhi or Ahmedabad. Samosas are triangle shaped pockets of pastry stuffed with lentils, peas, and other veggies. They are tasty and fulfilling.

Pakora

If you’re going to have samosas, why not have pakoras along with that? Pakoras, like samosas, are incredibly popular street foods in India. These tasty snacks are easy to prepare. Take deep fried vegetables, dip them in wheat batter and cook slowly. What you get is a hot and crisp Pakora – it’s so good that you can’t have just one!

Barfi

Barfis are among the most common sweets in India. They are made from a special concoction of condensed milk, nuts such as almond or cashew and sugar. The mixture is solidified and allowed to cool, following which it is cut into small square-shaped pieces. Then, the barfi is covered by a silver leaf for added effect.

 Chivda

Chivda is the most common snack available in India. Chivda is made with flattened rice or poha, which is cooked slowly and green chili and turmeric powder added for that special flavor. You can then add peanuts, raisins and mustard seeds to the mix.

Gulab Jamun

If there is one Diwali sweet you must have, it’s Gulab Jamun. If you haven’t tasted Gulab Jamun yet, you’re missing out on something really, really special. Gulab Jamun is a special sweet made from curdled milk and flour, which is kneaded into dough.  It is then fried in hot oil and dropped in a bowl of scented sugary syrup. Gulab Jamun can be served hot or cold. Yes, it tastes like heaven!
